Victorian Cleantech Cluster - Information and Networking Session

Attendees from across the cleantech sector gathered to hear about the newly established Victorian Cleantech Cluster

In a packed venue, over 70 attendees from across the cleantech sector gathered to hear about the newly established Victorian Cleantech Cluster on the afternoon of April 3rd, 2019.

The industry-led cluster, with initial support from Liveability Victoria International, will bring together Victorian companies and organisations in the clean technology space, to be a part of a collective voice, explore investment, market and export opportunities, collaborate and help shape a sustainable future for all Victorians.

The afternoon opened with Nigel Murphy, Managing Director of Earth Systems, and lead of the Victorian Cleantech Cluster working group. he shared his vision for the Cluster, the reason behind the need for a more coordinated cleantech sector, the potential benefits for members and upcoming activities the cluster will facilitate.

Representing the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Peter Hansford then shared his history in cleantech space, and the trends driving the need for a strengthened energy, environmental and sustainability industry. Peter also issued some sound advice for ensuring the success of new clusters, emphasising the need for an engaged sector in the involvement of the cluster and a proactive, skilled cluster coordinator.

The evening closed with a panel session featuring Peter Hansford (DELWP), Kate Nicolazzo (Moreland Energy Foundation) and Gwendolin Raban (Asaleo Care) with Nigel Murphy fielding questions from the participants.

The VCC currently has around 15 founding members, an engaged working group and is in the process of developing its logo, website and event calendar for 2019. It is operating as an unincorporated not-for-profit association.

An official launch event for the Victorian Cleantech Cluster will be held in June 2019 with more details to follow.
